Welcome to the first edition of The Current! I set up this newsletter to create a space to share the best of East Lothian with the people who live here and love it.
Every Wednesday I’ll share the latest events, opportunities and updates from the community - including books, art, music, food, the outdoors and lots more.
What’s on this week
🌼 To Do: Seek out the latest Village Green Maker’s Market at Restoration Yard in Dalkeith Country Park. The market runs sporadically, but you can visit the permanent store in East Linton every weekend.
🍕 To Eat: Find plant-based perfection outside Steampunk this Sunday, where Planet G will be serving up a smorgasbord of vegan treats, from (veggie) haggis burgers to loaded nachos and truffle gnocchi. Their instagram is also great fun, FYI.
🎨 To Create: Sign up for Paint & Sip Frida Kahlo Night at Dukes of West Barns on 25th May for a night of creativity and tequila.
🗓️ To Book: The first batch of Fringe by the Sea acts have been announced - these always sell fast, so get clicking to avoid disappointment. For fellow Del Amitri fans, this interview with Del frontman Justin Currie on his Parkinson’s diagnosis is a really interesting read.
🚀 To Make it Happen: Do you have an idea for a great event in East Lothian? Book Week Scotland is offering up to £500 to help you put it on. Think boozy book club, a Q+A with a local author, maybe even a “snacks and silent reading” party for your local community (my secret dream). Get some cash to put behind your ideas here.
PS. the people at Scottish Book Trust really are an excellent bunch. Find out more about what they do and consider donating if you can.
