Taylor’s visit to Edinburgh may have ever so slightly overshadowed East Lothian last week (although her backing dancers did pay a visit to North Berwick on their day off). Moving swiftly on… there’s a whole load of excellent things happening across the county this weekend, so let’s dive right in!
🎟️ To Book: The full Fringe by the Sea 2024 Programme was released last week, and there’s so much good stuff in it! Peruse at your leisure, but be aware that tickets do go quickly.
🪑 To Do: Chippendale School of Furniture is holding its graduate exhibition and furniture sale this weekend in Gifford. Students come to Chippendale from all over the world to hone their craft, so you’re sure to see some beautiful design work even if you don’t buy anything. Steampunk Coffee and Pizza Geeks will be there too, if you get peckish.
⛴️ To See: Did you know that now is one of the best times of the year to see puffins in the Firth of Forth? The Scottish Seabird Centre run regular boat trips to the Isle of May all through the summer. Something we all know: puffins are extremely cute.
🏳️🌈 To Celebrate: This Pride Retreat Day looks fun (if a bit pricey) - you’ll build a hammock, go sea swimming and enjoy a bonfire at Yellowcraig Beach. A nice way to celebrate Pride on your doorstep, and meet the wider LGBTQ+ community in East Lothian. (On that note - if you know of any events, groups or celebrations I should be sharing, let me know here!)
🎧 To Listen: Folk band Heal & Harrow are playing in West Barns Village Hall at the end of the month. You can listen to their music here, and buy tickets to the gig here.
Talk of the Town
🗑️ Something that probably only falls into the category of “interesting news” if you’re over the age of 32: East Lothian council are offering you a second chance to register for Brown Bin garden waste collection. You’ll now pay £35 for the privilege, but you won’t have to spend your Sunday driving back and forth to the tip with half a tree in the boot of your car. (It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me.)
🚗 While we’re on the topic of East Lothian council: if you visit our beautiful beaches a lot, think about getting an annual parking permit this summer. £50 gets you unlimited parking for the year.
