East Lothian Current 🌊 5th June 2024
Open Gardens, Gin Tasting and the chance to win Taylor Swift tickets...
Welcome to June! It really feels like joy is in the air right now - and there are so many lush things going on in East Lothian this week to get yourself out and about to.
I want to say a big thank you to all the new subscribers who have found The Current this week - it’s great to have you here! If you like what you see, please consider sharing this newsletter more widely - it’s the best way to help us reach more people 👇🏻
👩🏼🌾 To See: Scotland’s Gardens Scheme is really starting to blossom this month (see what I did there?) with private gardens across East Lothian opening their gates to the public. Sometimes baked goods are included too. Blooming lovely.
🍕 To Eat: Sri Lankan Delights are back at Steampunk on Thursday 20th June for their next pop up. It’s BYOB - call 07494800538 or email srilankandelights@tutanota.com to book your spot.
🍸 To Drink: Head down to the Scottish Seabird Centre this Friday evening for a tasting event hosted by Fidra Gin and Sea Buckthorn Scotland. Tickets are going fast here!
📚 📽️ 🎧 To Read: Get stuck in to The Last Days by Ali Millar, about her childhood in the Jehovah's Witnesses in the Scottish Borders, then book tickets for this in-conversation event at Night Owl later this month.
🗓️ To Book: The outdoor cinema is coming back to Dalkeith Country Park in July! Ticket sell quickly, so book now for Pretty Woman, Mamma Mia, Jurassic Park or Dirty Dancing. Bring your own snacks, and something to sit on.
💚 To Shake it Off: For anyone still holding out hope for Taylor Swift tickets - Edinburgh Children’s Hospital have a pair to give away for Sunday night. Donate £10 to be entered into the prize draw, and you can enter as many times as you like.
(And remember Swifties, stay alert to ticket scams this weekend - if it seems too good to be true, it probably is! This bit isn’t sponsored by my bank’s very good and very thorough security checks, but it probably should be…)
Talk of the Town: 🏳️🌈 Pride Month 🏳️🌈
Since June is LGBT Pride Month, I’ll be sharing a different event, group or good news story celebrating the LGBTQ+ community of East Lothian every week. We’re very lucky that Edinburgh has a huge array of meetups, events and businesses curated for an LGBTQ+ audience, but there’s much less here on our doorstep. So this month I’ll be celebrating the local, and shouting about East Lothian Pride as much as possible.
Know about a great event, group, meetup or business I should be sharing? Please tell me about it here!
First up this month is Porty Pride. Ok, ok, I know Portobello isn’t in East Lothian! But if the big march in Edinburgh isn’t for you, this definitely will be - whether you’re looking for craft workshops, author events, or a new sports team. And of course, the Porty Pride Prom Dog Walk.
