East Lothian Current ๐ 6th December 2024
Christmas markets, live music and a few moments of peace...
Weโre back baby! A few of you might have noticed I took a little (unplanned) break from writing the newsletter last month - the truth is that life just got in the way, and researching and writing this newsletter ended up at the bottom of an ever growing to-do list. A massive โจthank youโจ to those of you who let me know you were missing the weekly editions - working on The Current takes at least half a day every week, and it means a lot to know that people are reading and enjoying what I send out.
This weekโs edition is a bumper one, to (hopefully) make up for my radio silence in November. Iโm back to the weekly schedule now though, so please let me know your upcoming events and announcements - and keep your eyes peeled for my East Lothian gift guide next week!
โจ This Week
๐ Get some fresh air and do some good when you join this Festive Beach Clean Challenge this Saturday. Organised by the Scottish Seabird Centre, volunteers will be provided with everything they need.
โ๏ธ Alternatively, take a moment for yourself at this dreamy-sounding breathwork class.
๐งถ Pick up some last minute Christmas presents at Tyninghame Wee Fair this Sunday, 11am-4pm at Tyninghame Village Hall. (Yes, it still counts as Christmas shopping if you buy it for yourself).
๐๏ธ If youโre staring down the barrel of a busy afternoon at Fort Kinnaird this Sunday, treat yourself to a small detour and support some independent businesses at the Fisherrow Centre Christmas Craft Fair. You can find a lot of things in TK Maxx, but not mulled wine and hog roast rolls.
๐ฅ Dough not miss this one. Great British Bake Off stars James Morton and Peter Sawkins in conversation next Monday. You can buy tickets, along with The Big Book of Bread from Night Owl here.
๐ถ There are still some tickets left for this Winter Warmer Concert with Coastal Tones and Tyninghame Sings next Thursday. Expect festive old favourites, and a special turn by Dunbar Ukulele Band.
๐ค Live at the Law is back next Friday (13th) - Kathryn Williams and Dan Willson (Aka Withered Hand) will be taking to the stage in North Berwick for a cosy night of acoustic magic. Tickets sold our quickly, but you can grab some returns here.
๐๏ธ Book It Now
๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ป One for the homeworkers - Christmas coworking at Gilmerton House. Usually I would say ยฃ40 is a little steep for a coworking day, but this does include lunch, lawn games, unlimited coffee and off the charts festive vibes. And if you have relatives descending for the holidays then some would argue itโs a small price to payโฆ
๐ฅ Plan a โTwixtmas treat for yourself and your loved ones - book a spot at this Sri Lankan Delights X Steampunk pop up on Saturday 28th December.
๐ Another great Night Owl Books event, this one for the New Year. Author Hannah Kaner will be in conversation at The Crown in East Linton.
