East Lothian Current 🌊 Friday 24th January
Burns Night, live music, a new record shop and of course, Storm Éowyn...
If you’re reading this on Friday, it won’t be news to you that Storm Éowyn has hit East Lothian - but presumably you already have kids home from school, cancelled trains and a howling gale outside your window to remind you of that…
Some useful links for you:
I’ll caveat this week’s newsletter with the reminder that there will likely be other closures and cancellations this weekend, so check directly with the organisers if you’re planning to attend anything I’ve shared here.
Stay safe everyone!
☀️ What’s On
🏴 Burns Night celebrations will hopefully go ahead this Saturday. You can still pick up last minute tickets for Burns & Boogie at the Harbour Chapel, Newhailes Burns Supper Drive Thru, Tyninghame Village Hall Burns Night Celebration.
🥕 And if you’re planning to celebrate at home, you can stock up on all your homegrown essentials at Haddington Farmers Market during the day. (Sadly no neeps emoji available yet, maybe next year).
🎶 Head to Steampunk Coffee on Sunday afternoon for live music by AMM Sound, featuring Keith McInally and Ian Smith.
🎸 For more live music, Flexible are playing at the Scottish Seabird Centre this Thursday (30th Jan). There are only a few tickets left for this.
💍 Tying the knot in 2025? Sophia Grace Couture in Haddington are holding an open evening on Thursday. (On this, does anyone know any reputable sellers of pre-loved wedding dresses? I have two beautiful ones looking for a good home…)
🦁 Gladiator II and Moana II are both on The Brunton’s Film Fridays schedule next week (rescheduled from tonight).
🪡 This is next weekend but likely to sell out - Stitched: Scotland’s Embroidered Art at Newhailes House. You might have spotted the exhibition at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh last year - this time it includes a detailed curator-led talk (on Saturday 1st Feb).
💗 Another potential sell-out: this Paint & Sip Galentines event at The Leddie, hosted by Drift Candle Company (Wednesday 12th Feb).

🎨Another deadline - the East Lothian Visual Artists and Craft Makers Awards (VACMA to their friends) offers bursaries of up to £1000 for established and early-career artists. Get your application in here by Tuesday 4th February.

🚌 This one was sent in by a reader (you can do that here if you like) - Petition for a coastal bus route between Edinburgh, Leith, Portobello and Musselburgh.
