It’s a late newsletter from me this week. I blame last weekend’s sunshine - why sit inside writing when you can hang out on the beach? But there are LOTS of really great events coming up that I’m so excited to share with you this week.
As always - please pass this newsletter on to anyone you think might enjoy it, and let me know if you have an event coming up that you’d like to share.
🪗 To Do: Keep your fingers crossed for good weather for Haddstock this weekend! Expect author events, film screenings, workshops, exhibitions and live music. Tickets for headliner Karine Polwart have sold out, but there are still lots of free and drop-in events happening across Haddington.
🛍️ To Buy: Keep Sunday free for The Wee Fair makers market in Tyninghame Village Hall. I recommend fuelling up with a coffee and a roll at The Smithy first.
🌍 To Watch: This is the last time I’ll mention the Northern Lights (promise!) but I had to share this incredible video of the Aurora Borealis over North Berwick, taken by Scott Masterton earlier this month.
🍕 To Eat: Saturday is a good day to visit Archerfield Walled Garden - find live music and lots of tasty treats at their Summer Street Food event (bring cash!). If you arrive early, join their monthly garden tour at 10:30am.
📚 📽️ 🎧 To Read: Rural by Rebecca Smith is “a gorgeous tour of Scotland, England and Wales… for anyone who loves and longs for the countryside, and is interested in the future of rural Britain.” There’s a book launch taking place at Smeaton Garden Centre next month that you can get your tickets for now.
🗓️ To Book: Saturday Morning Art Club 🎨 runs the first Saturday of every month at East Lothian Flower Farm. Your materials and a hot drink will be provided, but be aware that classes are outdoors whatever the weather!
Talk of the Town
🏃🏼♀️ Don’t forget it’s the Edinburgh Marathon this Saturday. There’s a full list of road closures here if you’re heading into town that day - and good luck to those of you who are running!
🗳️ One weird consequence of being late with today’s newsletter was catching the news that there will be a general election on 4th July 2024. They Work For You, Local Intelligence Hub and Who Can I Vote For all look like useful resources. And if (like me) you’ll be on holiday in July, a reminder to apply for your postal vote here.
Thanks so much for reading and subscribing. Just to remind you, there are lots of ways you can help this newsletter grow:
