East Lothian Current 🌊 Saturday 11th January
Creative meetups, volunteering opportunities and worrying news from Portobello...
Whatever you’re up to this frosty morning, I hope you’re staying cosy! This week’s edition is full of opportunities to connect with others and get creative - just the ticket to brighten up the dark, chilly days of January.
I also have a favour to ask this week. I’d love to know more about The Current’s readership - what you like about the newsletter, what else you want to see. You’d be helping me out massively if you can take a couple of seconds to answer the poll questions below before scrolling down.
☀️ Coming Up
💐 This looks like a gorgeous Sunday morning - a restorative yoga and wreath making session from the North Berwick Flower Co. Book via their website, bring a pal.
🧵 Join Innerwick Crafty Group for a free macrame workshop on Tuesday 14th January. The organisers call it “a relaxed time sharing our interests and skills”.
🦀 These events were the two most-clicked links in last week’s newsletter: Seaweed pressing workshop (Friday 17th) and Coastal Birds for Beginners (Saturday 18th) at the Scottish Seabird Centre.
🧷 Community Noticeboard
🌊 Not strictly East Lothian but worth a read nonetheless from the Edinburgh Inquirer - water studies conducted by citizen scientists at Portobello have delivered worrying results.
🥐 Bostock Bakery on North Berwick High St will be closed from this Sunday for several weeks for a refurb - the East Linton branch will still be open to fulfill all your pastry-based needs.
💐 Looking for a volunteering opportunity? The new St Columbas cafe and shop in NB is recruiting ahead of its opening in Spring (terrible photography all my own work).
🧶 MADE in East Lothian are making lots of their arts and craft items available for free on 11th, 18th and 25th January, as part of their ReUSE Saturdays initiative. Keen crafters can see a preview of what’s on offer here.
Later this Month…
🎨 New dates have been released for Arty Chat, East Lothian’s meetup for artists, crafters and creatives.
💃🏽 Looking for Burns Night plans? Check out last week’s newsletter for a full round up (and let me know if there’s anything I’ve missed!)
